1. Keep it simple
Visitors do not want to waste time on a website reading lots of unwanted information. Say what you need to, clearly and concisely.

2. Use a spell checker
There is no excuse for typos, spelling mistakes show a lack of professionalism. Nowadays most software have a spell checker included, if not, then you can always copy and paste the copy into Mircosoft Word, Text Edit or Notepad.

3. Avoid jargon
The point of having a website is to reach as many people as possible and not to confuse them. If you can not avoid acronyms and jargon than provide explanations of their meanings. No one likes to read complicated copy

4. What sets you appart?
What makes you different from your competitors? Free postage, good discounts/ offers, warranty, price protection, privacy and customer service are just a few examples. If you have strengths than present and express them. Researching your competitors gives you a great insight to what is being done in your market and determining your key strengths and traits.

5. Use headings and sub-headings
Headings and sub-headings help visitors to decide whether to read a page or to find specific information whithin it. Well written headings and sub-headings can really improve the user-friendliness of your website.

6. Use of short paragraphs
Shorter paragraphs and sentences encourage visitors to read more, especially towards the end of a web page, where their attention is drifting.

7. Use of keywords
Do not forget to include a few keywords into the headings and body text. This will help the search engines find your website.

8. Make sensible and wise links
In aid for search engines and the visually impaired, make sure your links make sense. Only saying ‘Click Here’ is meaningless and has to be described in more detail e.g. ‘Click here for our contact form’.

9. Double check
Ask someone else to proof read the copy for you. It is much easier to spot someone else’s mistakes than your own.
